Everest Trek Information Acclimatization

Acclimatization days during Everest Base Camp Trek are allocated on Namche Bazar and Dingboche. Many trek operator mention those days as Rest Day instead it is like a kind of torture day actually because trekkers do not stay entire day on guesthouse as a rest instead after breakfast people hike up to near by ridge and return back to same hotels. Normally people need to adapt with high elevation while going further higher elevation. Acute mountain sickness suggests hiking higher elevation during daytime and sleeping on lower elevation as low as possible.

Lets build some knowledge about first rest day on Namche, what to do where to go and what will be elevation difference in total. Namche Bazar is at elevation of 3440 m from sea level, it is a big market area with number of hotels with various categories like normal guesthouse, resort and even up to two or three star categories. During acclimatization day it is recommended to have some breakfast around 7:00 o’clock in morning so that it will be feasible to start before 7:30 am. Leave your big bag pack in hotel, make a small day backpack and bring your all valuables with you, water bottle, sunscreen lotion and some wet tissue paper. It is almost one and half-hour uphill to Syangmoche Airport. As you hike up aerial view of Namche on back take shape of C, slowly other mountain range on Thame Valley appears on west and Ama Dablam, Kantega on east. Airport is at elevation of 3700 m from where take a right turn and head toward a small hotel at the top of ridge from where you can have view of Mount Everest on clear weather. Flat trail on northeast will lead you to Everest View Hotel, Five Star Hotel. Don’t forget to take a cup of tea on hotel with view of Everest. Little ahead trail descends down to Khumjung Village pointing northwest. Walk through middle of village and explore Khumjung Monastery. Stop at Hillary School, take some lunch and again hike up a bit to southwest of valley following stone ladder all the way to top. Again you can have amazing view of Mount Everest. Descend down passing through Yak Development form and reach west end of Syangmoche Airport. Descend via same trail and explore Sherpa Museum on the way down to your hotels. If it is early enough go to some bar and watch movie, documentary about Everest and Sherpa.

Namche Bazar Everest
Aerial view of Namche will be incredible when you start further hiking up from this point, Sundar Peak on Thame Valley will rise from right corner of Frame as you hike up toward Everest View Hotel
Similar to Namche you need to have another extra day on Dingboche. There are three different options during Dingboche Rest Day. Hike to Chukung (Gateway to Island Peak) or Trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp or Hike to Nagarjun Hill. The best is to go Nagarjun Hill as it takes you all the way to elevation of 5100 m and you can have aerial view of Chukung, Lake beneath the Ama Dablam and Base Camp area of Ama Dablam. Not only that one can have a good view of mountain ranges as seen from Namche, Makalu on east (5th Highest Mountain) and Island Peak on east, along with Ama Lapcha Pass on trail to Mera Peak. If you go to Nagarjun Hill then it is a long way up to the places where Tibetan Flags are places. Not only that Chola Pass Trail can be view along lake on the way to Dzongla. Acclimatization day are key for successful Everest Base Camp Trek, allocate at least two rest days and hike up during daytime on rest day. Have a safe trip to Everest Base Camp J
